2018 Leander Cognac from the 1990s. Grande Champagne Champagne for the bicentenary anniversary of the Leander Rowing Club in Henley-on-Thames. It spent two years in a "chai" beside the River Charante, and is an "Early Landed Vintage Cognac", which then was sent to mature in English cellars rather than in France.
It had a rich ambery golden colour, a bouquet of lemons, wood, biscuits; and in the mouth tastes of wood, lemon, caramel and muffin. Being rich but not heavy, I did not get much rancio. Elegant, sunny and bright, with a beautiful balance and a finish of 70 seconds.
