Violette à Deux Sous

by Guerlain

A beautiful violet impression opens this olfactory spectacle, a rich and slightly green violet. The is a touch of an indolic-like component to it at times, and further into the development of this creation I get whiffs of fruitiness with a peachy background. Very nice!

In the drydown the violet changes to a dryer, more elegant and slimmer version, with the whole gradually getting lighter and a bit brighter.

The base is characterised by the development of an additional vetiver impression. Is is on the darker side, and only has a very limited earthiness attached to it; I don't get much of a vegetal component here. Soon the vetiver is pushed aside by the development of an elegant and bright powderiness. The latter is quite modern in its lack of any mustiness, and it is not a heavy dowager-style powdery note; it is more nimble than weighty.

I get moderate sillage, good projection and a great nine hours of longevity on my skin.

This delightful spring scent is simple in overall concept but nuanced and sophisticated in its execution. The ingredients are of high level quality. The zen-like distillation of the mix into only two core notes - a dominant violet that undergoes an entertaining metamorphosis, as well as an accompanying vetiver in the base - does not prevent the coming and going of everchanging nuances and oscillations. There is more to this than meets the eye.  I am not sure when it was launched.  Alas it is discontinued.
