BOIS MAROCAIN

by TOM FORD

Pine and cedar straight up - maybe a bit synthetic but a nice initial impression.  After a few hours it is very close to my skin and it does not change much. I was going to write it off as having a ridiculously short half life, but the faint scent continued to linger for over six hours and at stages displays a better performance. Furthermore, facets of cedarwood and a lovely resinous and nigh-balsamic undertone added further complexity, which I appreciated more with repeated use over some years.

I feel it is overpriced, but if you work in the country and want a very unobtrusive fragrance or you just love pine and cedar, this one might be for you. If I want a more natural real coniferous cypress-centred fragrance with some power, Creed Cypress Musc is way superior, and for a more sophisticated cypress, Chanel Sycomore is much better.  Nonetheless, over years I learnt to appreciate it more and more.

Whist this autumnal scent could be a neutral score without the further development in the drydown, and whilst it is close to a top-end neutral score, it overall deserves positive evaluation when worn on a warmer day when the subtleties come out more.
