SALON   CHAMPAGNE Cuvee 'S'

This rare Champagne, which is only produced in certain years of superior harvest, is from Le Mesnil.  It is reportedly  owned by the Laurent-Perrier group.  Only about 40 vintages have been produced since 1905, and the yield tends to be around 50000 bottles per released year.   Salon is always a Blanc de Blancs, i.e. 100% Chardonnay.

This is not exclusively sources from one Clos only, and hence it is not a single-vineyard Champagne.  The grapes come from various contracted growers in the Commune of  Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, with additional grapes added from Salon's own Jardin de Salon vineyard (1 ha).

2002 Salon Champagne Cuvée S Blanc de Blancs: a bright bouquet of lemon and apricot,  followed by tastes of the same fruits, with touches of hazelnut and a slight biscuit undertone.  Hints of orange blossom come and go.  This is not an intensive, rich and dense palette of flavours; this is a fine and elegant Blanc de Blancs,  with a  very restrained yeast on the palate   The finish is 40 seconds.   Excellent.  February 2019.  Drink - 2030.  4.25/5
