RED

by Giorgio Beverly Hills

A massive potpourri finishing as classic fougère.

The opening last had me somewhat stunned first in its uniqueness and the concentrated aggregation of multiple notes that were hard to discern initially. The more I got to know this fragrance, though, I realised that this complexity is probably the result of them being very well blended.

In the opening cumin, bergamot and artemisia stood out, with the cumin increasingly most intensive. Later on green herbal notes gave way to a sophisticated floral potpourri, with geranium and carnations in the foreground and buttressed by a rose impression.

After about four hours the base notes seriously developed, announced by a fresh-leathery component that leads to the fougère that is the hallmark of this stage in the development of this scent. Now one gets mainly wood notes, a somewhat mundane amber, some nice patchouli and, eventually, a traditional oakmoss character of good quality. For the second half of this scent's lifetime this oakmoss dominates, only at times enriched by whiffs of the gentle patchouli accompaniment.

Very good sillage and projection in the first half, with a splendid longevity of over eleven hours. Fit for the Berverly Hills Hotel. Well done, Giorgio!
